Condensation in your Camper or RV
Julie Miklaszewicz ![]() ![]() Julie Miklaszewicz RVing Outpost, LLC One of the biggest complaints we hear from folks is problems with condensation inside their camper/RV. When trying to fix a problem, it helps to know what is the root cause of the problem, so we will start there. Condensation normally occurs when warm, moist air comes into contact with a cool surface. It can happen not only on the windows (most common) and mirrors, but even on the walls. This not only happens in RVs, but happens in our homes as well. For our purposes, we will discuss the condensation in your camper/RV. Moisture in your RV comes from a wide variety of places, including cooking, washing dishes, showering and believe it or not, even breathing! The best way to minimize condensation is the reduce or eliminate all that excess moisture from the RV in the first place. How do you do that? Well, for starters, keep a roof vent cracked open, or more than one if it's not too cool outside. That will help to allow moist air to escape your RV. When you're cooking, washing dishes or showering, turn on the exhaust fan. That will help to remove the moisture before it even has a chance to mix with drier air. Go ahead and open a window to allow humid air to mix with drier outside air. A final option may be to get a small dehumidifier for your camper. You can find them at most home improvement stores or big box stores. Julie Miklaszewicz is an avid RVer, having visited 48 states by the time she was 16 years old. She has yet to fly anywhere and prefers traveling with her truck and fifth wheel with her husband and three children, enjoying the beauty of the U.S.A. from the ground. While camping and at home, she prefers to cook in her cast iron Dutch ovens and numerous other cast iron cookware. She and her husband, Greg, are the owners of the RVing Outpost, located in Abbotsford, WI.
