What Makes a Good Employer?

Would you say that you work for a good employer? What constitutes a good employer? I have worked for a number of different companies and have formed a fairly good idea of what it takes to be a good employer. I will be explaining my thoughts in this article.

It is vital that an employer has a strong leadership that can act in a decisive manner. Weak leadership can result in staff members being bullied, this normally would be in a mental rather than physical way; and can also lead to a lowering of moral in the workers. People like to see their management take quick and decisive action when problems arise.

A good employer will off their workers a pension scheme which the employer will also contribute to. Many people are aware of just how important it will be to have saved into a pension and therefore this is now something that each and every employer should be offering to their staff. It is therefore a shame that the majority of companies still do not offer this facility to their employees.

I was always told by my parents that honesty is the best policy; I am therefore often left astounded as well as frustrated with the large number of lies that are told by employers. These lies normally involve future promotion or earnings potential. "If you do this and this, you will get this." You then do what they have asked of you and low and behold you get nothing. A good employer is one which is honest to its staff.

A good employer will also ensure that the workplace is a happy and friendly environment to work in, that it is clean and safe. Again, unfortunately, this is often not the case.
