The Value of a TranslatorAdam Johnson ![]() The Value of a Translator I recently went on a trip to China. My objective was to export our solution to China. The solution had a significant amount of Intellectual Property included and that IP could not easily be protected. We had the benefit of hiring a translator to accompany us in the business meetings. The Chinese translation were invaluable when it came to deciding who we should do business with. While all of the Chinese companies we spoke with had their own translator, they were surprised to see that we had brought our own. After reflecting on our trip, I found it inconceivable that we would not have our own translator. One that we had selected and one that we had paid for who would be looking after our best interests. The information we got from the Chinese business translator was limited and missed many of the pertinent pieces of information. We had taken some Chinese language classes from Language Champs , but we also asked for a translator and they hooked us up. When we received documents in Simplified Chinese , we also got them translated and they had some significant differences from what had been discussed. I would strongly recommend that if you are doing business in a non-English speaking country, you get your own translator.
