How To Gain The Respect Of Our Work ColleaguesSteve Hill ![]() Stuttering therapy We spend a large part of our adult lives at work, well at least the majority of people do. We therefore have to attempt to enjoy the time we spend at work. One of the ways that we can go about doing this is by attempting to gain the respect of our work colleagues. So how do we gain this respect? There is a famous saying that states you need to earn respect, you certainly can not buy it. To start with it is important to understand what not to do! Sucking up to the boss is never a good idea, not only will this annoy and frustrate your fellow colleagues it will also be seen as a weakness in the eyes of the boss. Now to concentrate on what you should be doing to earn the respect. You need to be very capable in the job itself and always willing to offer help to the other members of staff. Another famous saying states that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. This is certainly true and therefore we should also have time to have a laugh and a joke with our colleagues. We also need to treat every member of staff as equals. There may well be people who are of a lower grade than us; that does not mean that we just use them as a gopher. People who are of a higher level should be treated with respect but again not too much! We should also be more than willing to make our colleagues a drink and to go on the sandwich run, however high and mighty we might think we are. The bottom line is this; we need to work hard, play hard, have some fun, show respect to each and every member of staff and be willing to do the most menial of tasks.
