As with all new endeavors you need to be prepared to be patient and to ask a lot of questions. Beginning scrapbooking is no different. There are many aspects to this art form so the best thing is to start simply. Now you've probably seen some great scrapbooks made by friends or family members and would like to be able to do the same.

With a little time and effort you'll find that you'll be doing just that. To begin with there are two types of scrap booking to start with. These are traditional and digital scrapbooking.

The first type of beginner scrapbooking to start with is traditional scrapbooking. To begin you should start with your most recent photos.

This will allow you to see progress as you work your way back in history. Get a scrapbook that will allow you move the pages around.

This will remove the pressure of having to make sure you get every page just right.

Undoubtedly you have scrapbooks from other people that have been given to you. Take a look at these to get ideas of what you would like to have in your scrapbook.

It is also an excellent idea to go to your local craft store and purchase a scrapbooking kit.

Make sure you have the right tools. These comprise of:

  • Straight scissors
  • Quality photo album
  • High end pens and markers
  • Adhesive tape
  • Decorative papers. (You can download decorative sheets for free online to save money.)
  • Make sure the paper you use is acid free so your pictures are not damaged. Also get a cutting board and cutters that will allow you to make curved edges and shapes for your pictures and other decorative papers.

    You should be able to get these supplies at your local craft store. You will also find that your local craft store can be a great resource on getting you started in this hobby.

    Some will even provide classes on beginner scrapbooking as will your local community college. With the growing popularity you might also be able to find a local scrapbooking club to get you started.

    Your local craft store will undoubtedly have information on available classes in the area. Another great resource for information can be found in craft magazines.

    Not to mention you should check online since there are now many scrapbooking sites that offer free information of the hobby.

    Beginner scrapbooking is a great hobby that will allow you to preserve the memories of your family.

    As you create these scrapbooks and add to them your flair with words, title and captions you will be creating treasured family heirlooms.

    Most people don't appreciate the fact that after your pictures the words, titles and captions are the next most important part of your scrapbook.

    These will convey what you were thinking and feeling when you created the scrapbook. Later generations will thank you for taking the time to add them.
