Gas prices got you down? Don't sweat. Here are 4 tips to help keep you cool and save cash over this long, expensive summer.

1.) Turn off your air conditioning. If you're used to turning on the AC every time it hits 80 out I want to encourage you to change your ways. Simply look at everything you save just by turning off your air conditioning: money, the environment, electricity (Wow!) It's also a great idea to turn off your AC since there are a number of other things you can do to cool down and save money. Hit up a local beach or get an inflatable baby pool or water slide for your front lawn. You can do about all of those things for less than $10 and the water that comes out of your hose is bound to be cold enough to cool you down! Besides, nature didn't intend for you to be refrigerated all day watching TV, get outside and DO something!

2.) Just get done throwing a summer cook out at your house? Skip the dishwasher and wash the dishes by hand. Dishwashers suck up hot water, electricity and valuable time you can spend conversing with another human being while doing this chore. It may not be fun, but it's a great way to save cash and you'll feel productive while doing it.

3.) Plan a trip to a local beach or park and car pool it-make use of the extra room in your car! You're paying to haul it around you might as well get your money's worth!

4.) Do all of your shopping one day of the week and hit up good stores running good deals. Try setting a single day of the week where you buy all of the food for a single week, this sounds easier than it really is. Often times people (I'm guiltier than anyone here…) go to the grocery store off and on throughout a week getting small, insignificant items they could have (and should have) purchased on their main grocery shopping day. This is pointless! Just get better at planning ahead and purchasing everything all at once, you will not BELIEVE how much you save in gas just doing this method alone. I calculated a savings of $40 one week (shame on me!) by simply planning ahead.

There it is. I hope you have enjoyed these tips and get a good chance to implement them, they can and WILL save you money.
