You've probably heard it a million times before.

"Write out a list of your goals."

But why?

What's the BIG deal about writing out your goals?

Many business people that I have consulted with over the years have asked me that very same question. Yes, they informed me that they had at some point thought about their goals. But, not surprisingly, only a VERY FEW had actually taken a pen out to write their goals down on paper.

When I asked this majority why they hadn't taken the short amount of time to write out their goals, the quizzical response was usually ...,

Why is writing out my goals

so important, anyway?

In answer to that question, let me tell you about a study written concerning the effect of having written goals. This particular study focused on how having a written-down set of goals can positively impact your success in business, and in life.

Some of you may have heard about this study or even read about it before. But it's message is so important, that it bears reviewing as a reminder to all of us about the power of penning down a written set of goals, and the level of success that can be generated from having such a set of written-down goals.

10 YEAR HARVARD STUDY ON GOALS

A 10 Year Harvard University study was performed on one of its graduating classes back in the 70's. The study was commissioned to determine the effect, if any, that goal setting had upon its participants.

The participants were all Harvard educated students, presumably already highly motivated, achieving individuals.

A percentage of the class was asked to set down their goals in writing. Thereafter, the participants' lives were followed over the course of the next 10 years.

What was concluded from the study was nothing short of remarkable about the success produced by goal setting, and how that success was multiplied by harnessing the "Power of the Pen"; that is, having written down goals.

The study found that those graduating students who had set goals were found to be in the TOP 10% of their class in terms of their achievements in the 10 year period.

But even more remarkable was that the ones who had written out their goals were found to be in the TOP 3% of earnings.

The ones that had taken the time to harness the "Power of the Pen" and had written out specific goals years earlier, had later in life earned more than all the others!

Is that enough incentive for you? That's the power of having a written-down set of goals!

So what are you waiting for?

It doesn't take much time or effort to harness the "Power of the Pen". In fact, it can be rather exciting and motivating for you ..., and even your business.

Go ahead. Get out your pen. Let's start harnessing it's power.

The process isn't complicated at all. We'll go through it together. Don't put it off.

With your pen in hand, RIGHT NOW, take out a sheet of paper.

Sit down in a comfortable chair where it's quiet and free of distractions. You don't want to be disturbed while you're completing this exercise. The little time you now spend using your pen to write out this list of goals WILL reap you many dividends in the future!

Start writing out your goals.

First, let's begin with YOU.

Ask yourself these questions

about YOU personally :

  • What do you want to accomplish?
  • What do you want to do in life?
  • Where do you want to go?
  • What things do you want to have?
  • What kind of person do you want to become?
  • What kind of business do you ultimately want to own?

Next, let's follow the same thinking process for YOUR BUSINESS.

Ask yourself these questions

concerning YOUR BUSINESS:

        • What kind of business do you want to have?
        • What kind of income do you want from your business?
        • What kind of customers and clients do you want to serve?
        • What kind of products and services do you want to provide?
        • What kinds of projects do you want to work on?
        • What kind of future do YOU want your business to provide for you and your family when it comes time for you to "hang it up?"

You see, it's easy. Answering these preliminary questions will get you going. It's exciting as you start to see the possibilities in written form.

That's the "Power of the Pen"!

And best of all ..., it's a time-tested and PROVEN process.

So get busy writing. Harness the "Power of the Pen".

By writing out your goals, you'll not only accomplish more in life, but you'll earn more in your business too!
