As old as they are, posters can still be effective tools for your business. However, that is only true if you design them properly and locate them correctly. Here are few tips and hints to help you do just that:

1. Less is More

When it comes to poster printing, more text is not necessarily a good thing. And a lot of images can be bad, too. You want to keep these things to a minimum; using only those things that add to the value of the poster.

2. Think About Passers-by

The design of your poster printing project should be made in such a way as to attract customers who might happen to pass by. This sounds like an obvious tip, but it isn't. Many business owners only think about their target customers when designing their posters, and forget about others who might be attracted by the poster.

3. Location, Location, Location

The most important part of your poster campaign is where you place the fruits of your labor. They should be placed in locations where plenty of your target customers will see them.

4. Compare it to Others

If your competitors have posters, look at them. See if you posters stand out compared to them. Also, if your competitors' posters have aspects that you like, try to incorporate them into your own.

5. Use Big Enough Text

Not all of your customers will have great vision, and not all of them will be right in front of your poster. Make sure the text and images in your poster are big enough to be seen from a reasonable distance.

6. It's All About the Colors

Using the right combination of colors is also very important. Obviously, using colors that clash is not a good idea. However, you also have to use colors that evoke the right "feel" from your advertisement.

7. Make Sure it all Meshes

Besides being the right size and the right colors, your text and images must also work well together. Sometimes, you will just not get a good impression from the items that you use, for whatever reason. If you don't like the way your selections work together, your customers probably won't, either.

8. Keep it Modern

Unless you have a retro style business, you will want to use modern effects in your posters. You don't want to look retro or old fashioned if that is not your express intent.

9. The Words are the Most Important

As great as the images you use are, the words are still the most important part of your poster. Remember that as you go through the design phase. Be careful not to overshadow the content of your poster with the other elements that you use.
