Bad Ass Sophistication: The Many Kinds of Leather Products
Dennis Paguio ![]() ![]() Dennis Paguio Leather is one of the strongest and most elegant materials that humanity has developed. They are prided for being durable, beautiful and long-lasting. But there are several kinds of leathers and each has a unique combination of traits that make them unique. They include the following: Full-grain leather- This refers to hides that have not been sanded, snuffed or buffed (in a process known as correcting) n order to remove imperfections from it. Only the hair is seen to be removed from the epidermis. Because the grain is in its natural state it retains much of its durability. This grain also has greater breathability, making it much more comfortable than any other leather. It also has the advantage of not wearing out and developing a natural 'Patina', making it more beautiful overtime. The finest leather products are usually made from full-grain leather. Corrected Leather- This refers to any top-grain leather that has had its surface buffed, snuffed or sanded to remove any physical imperfections. Though they are made from full-grain leather, the process of correcting them makes them inferior in quality to regular top-grain leather. Most corrected leather is sold as pigmented leather. Split Leather- this kind of leather is made from the fibrous part of the hide once the top-grain of the raw hide has been separated from the hide itself. Split leather is usually made to create suedes. Suede is very strong material but is less durable and less expensive than top-grain. Deer Skin- This is one of the most durable kinds of leathers and has long been respected by the Native Americans because of this fact. Deer skin is used in many items and is handsomely priced because of it durability and relative rarity. These are just some of the many kinds of leathers that are available on the market. It's best to choose the leather type that coincides best with your personal tastes and budget. And though leathers are prided for having very long lifespans, their colors may not always be to your liking.
