These Famous Poodles

Poodles are intelligent and active dogs. Their dignified appearance and their dense yet stylish coat is what makes them unique compared to other breeds. They are popular household pets, show ring and conformation ring performers, circus performers and even television and movie characters. Below is a list of Poodles who have made their way towards fame.

Aero - Aero is a miniature Poodle owned by Mao Asada, a Japanese figure skater. The dog is named after the chocolate confection made by Nestl. Aero, together with Asada have been featured in chocolate commercials in Japan. The dog has also appeared in dog exhibition programs.

Bela - Bela is a pet Poodle owned by "Weird Al" Yankovic. Bela sat on Yankovic's head on the cover of his 2003 album, Poodle Hat.

Boye - Boye is the pet of Prince Rupert of the Rhine (1619-1682). In 1624, Prince Rupert was appointed to lead the Royalist cavalry during the English Civil War. He took with him his white Standrad Poodle, in which he claimed had supernatural powers thus frightened the soldiers of Parliament. The Poodle was killed at the Battle of Marston Manor.

Charley - Charley is a pet of Nobel prize author John Steinbeck. His work, Travels with Charley, is a travelogue of coast-to-coast trip he took across the United States with his standard Poodle.

Cleo - Cleo is a Poodle character in Clifford the Big Red Dog. One of Clifford's bestfriend, Cleo is energetic, selfish and troublemaker who doesn't tell the truth sometimes.

Josephine - A pet of author Jacqueline Susann. Susann wrote the novel Every Night, Josephine!, based on her experiences with her Poodle, whom she sometimes dressed up in outfits to match her own.

Roly - An apricot Standard Poodle in the BBC soap opera East Enders. Roly appeared in the first episode of the programme and remained in the show until 1993. Roly was made the property of the BBC, taken to live with Julia Smith at her home in London and has a dressing room he shared with Willy the pug at Elstree studios.

Wellington - Mrs. Shears' black Poodle from The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time written by Mark Haddon. Wellington was discovered dead by Christopher Boone, the protagonist of the story who investigated the mystery behind the death of the Poodle.

Foo- Foo - A Poodle owned by Miss Piggy in The Muppet Show.
