Global Domains International (GDI) - Viable Work at Home Opportunity or a Pyramid Scheme or Scam?Brett Basinski ![]() http://simple-fitness-tips.blogspot.com If you have been looking on the internet for any length of time for work at home business opportunities, you have probably come across Global Domains International, or GDI for short. So the question is this, "Is GDI a Viable Work at Home Opportunity or a Pyramid Scheme or Scam?". This is a valid question. First let's take a look at Global Domains International (GDI) as a company to see if they are solid and reputable: The owners of GDI are two men named, Mike Reed and Alan Ezeir. They were already self-made millionaires, who saw a unique opportunity to exploit the ever growing demand for internet presence around the globe. They searched the world for a marketable domain suffix and found a small country called Samoa which owned the rights to domain names ending in ".ws". Michael and Alan, then traveled to visit the top government officials of Somoa, and purchased the rights to ".ws" domain names. Now ".ws" stands for website or worldsite. In November 2000, less than nine months after launching ".ws" to the global Internet community, GDI announced it had sold over 100,000 .WS registrations to customers such as Yahoo!, Intel, Cisco, Dell Computers, and other companies and individuals in more than 180 countries. In 2002, in a special issue of Inc. Magazine, GDI placed #37 on a list of the fastest growing companies. Since then the company has continued to build a solid reputation for providing exceptional product and services at a reasonable price. Second, let's look at what you get if you join GDI. For $10 a month, after a 7 day FREE trial, you get a ".ws" domain name, a 10 page website with Site Builder software included, and up to 10 email addresses. This seems like a great, inexpensive way for any business to develop a presence on the web or for anyone to build their onw website. If you choose to join GDI as an affiliate, you will be allowed to promote GDI's services to others and earn a 10% commission on any new GDI members that you bring in. This doesn't seem like much, but they offer very lucrative bonuses if you bring in 5 or more new members in a week. GDI also provides promotional videos and information for new customers on their affiliate website. There are some affiliates that are bringing 20, 30 or even 50+ new affiliates to GDI each week. Third, is GDI considered a Pyramid Scheme or a Scam? The simple answer by definition is "no". A pyramid scheme is defined in Wikipedia "as a non-sustainable business model that involves the exchange of money primarily for enrolling other people, into the scheme, usually without any product or service being delivered." By definition, GDI is not a "Pyramid Scheme" because they offer website domain names, hosting services, email addresses, and other internet services. There is a product and there is a service. A "scam" is defined in Wikipedia as, "a confidence trick or confidence game. More often known as a con, scam, swindle, grift, bunko, flim flam, stratagem, or scheme, is an attempt to swindle a person or people (known as the "mark" or sometimes "griftee") which involves gaining his or her confidence". By definition, GDI is not a "scam" either, however, the person presenting you with an opportunity could be a scam artist, and therfore, you could get scammed. So, we have looked at Global Domains International as a company, we have looked at what you get when you join Global Domains International, and we have looked at the definition of "Pyramid Scheme" and Scam". So the question remains, is Global Domains International (GDI) a Viable Work at Home Opportunity? An business opportunity is defined in Wikipedia as follows, "business opportunity , or bizopp , involves the sale or lease of any product, service, equipment, etc. that will enable the purchaser-licensee to begin a business. The licensor or seller of a business opportunity usually declares that it will secure or assist the buyer in finding a suitable location or provide the product to the purchaser-licensee." Again, by definition, GDI is a viable business opportunity. You are getting a product or service and you are getting support from GDI via their website. Based on all of the above information, it looks like GDI is a legitimate Work From Home Opportunity and not a Pyramid Scheme or a Scam.
