Beware of Home Businesses where Individual Business Owners are Allowed to Undercut and StealDebbie Turner ![]() There's a little critical something you've left out of the equation and if you're not absolutely certain of this answer, you may choose to not pull the trigger until you have concrete evidence this isn't happening. Failure to do so can put you out of business before you even get started. There are small business opportunities and home based businesses on the market that tolerate, or allow, it's distributors to undercut the pricing of their product. Even though it may clearly say in the terms and conditions of the company's policy manual that it's not allowed, there are instances where this is happening and are even being advertised in a big way right out in the open. If there is tolerance and no consequences to the distributors for doing this, they will continue to do it. All this accomplishes is a condition under which unscrupulous individuals are allowed to steal your business. I've seen it first hand. I'm talking to a prospect, we seem to be developing a trust relationship and all of a sudden, they disappear only to discover that he/she joined and/or purchased under another distributor because of undercutting. Its one thing to offer an incentive of value to make the deal more sweet, but to flat out undercut, sometimes to the tune of $7,000 up, just to make a fast sale, that's simply stealing. It doesn't feel good. It hurts all the business owners representing that company's product and/or service. It's one more reason the home business industry has turned into somewhat of a circus. Anytime there's no accountability, it's a plan for failure and a breeding ground for these unscrupulous individuals. As in any business, competition is good, but stealing is wrong when the company mandates a set price and business owners blatantly ignore that. In your investigation of the company's policies and practices, make sure that there is a check and balance system in place so that this doesn't happen to you. Your assurance is critical to your success. The best way to insure that is to choose a company where corporate fixes the price and all product sales have to go through them directly. That way, everyone is assured of paying the same price, receiving the same service and product and the playing field is held secure and fair for the benefit of all business owners.
