How I get paid to play games at homeMichael Boss ![]() My job is to play games from home. What's yours? I was looking to make a little extra money for not a lot of work. I found a lot of get rich scams, ebay "masters" selling their secrets, and a lot of other schemes. I was coming close to giving up when I stumbled across something that sparked my interest. I found out I could get paid for something I was already doing in the privacy of my own home. I could be a video game tester. I was already busy going to school and working at a local grocery store. When I went home to relax I would usually pop in a game and play for a while. The idea of getting paid to do something that was fun and relaxing made me very excited so I looked into the site a bit more. Richard West, after spending 4 years being a video game tester, created a guide on how other gamers could get into an industry of their dreams. The website promised a wage of $10-80 an hour testing video games, video games that wouldn't be out for months to come. The companies who wanted their games tested would send the game via mail to the testers with an evaluation form. The form had very simple questions like "Did you like the interface" "What was your favorite part of the game" and "How would you rate the game." As a gamer, these were the sorts of things I naturally picked up on. Playing games in the past, I would get frusterated with bad interfaces that were difficult to navigate or odd things that took away from the gameplay, so answering questions like these was a breeze. Being a video game tester is pretty easy work. Play a game for 5 hours, something I really don't consider work, answer a few easy questions, and just sending it back in the mail. There are a few small things I am not fond of though. At times you will be asked to drive to a game testing center and test the game there, but, if you enjoy driving, it could be an added perk for you. Also, one of the few boring parts of this job, you may be asked to play the same level multiple times to identify the bugs. I'm not going to lie, it is still a job so there is a bit of work, but it is still a fun, enjoyable experience. It also offers many contacts for when I finish my degree in game design and that is one of the best ways to get into the industry. The site offers a full money back guarantee if you don't like the guide to getting a job as a game tester but I haven't tested it out, I really haven't had a need to.
