How To Lose Extra Fat - You Can Do It!

We all have those moments of complete crisis where we want to look great, we want to feel sexy and make an impression. But then you look at yourself in the mirror and the self-criticism starts (and it's usually not constructive!): "I wish I didn't have that double chin", "my upper arms are bigger than I though", "I wish there was a bit of space between my legs, instead of looking like tree trunks", "how the hell do I get rid of these damn love handles!". Yes, we've all been there.

Whether you've recently had a baby, or you just don't have the time, motivation or money to get to the gym every day - there are ways to fight that flab, and maybe with some of my suggestions here, you might learn how to lose extra fat.

Extra fat is normally caused by over eating (or eating the 'wrong' foods) and lack of exercise. If you're eating more calories than what you burn off during your usual everyday activities, then the surplus calories are stored in your body as fat. I think it's important to understand the reasons for this extra fat so that it then becomes easier to understand how to lose extra fat.

The first and best advice I have, and this is from my own personal experience - is to drink heaps of water - it's true, water really is the key to weight loss. I'm talking about 2 litres of water a day! Yep, it means you'll be going to the bathroom more than normal, however, that doesn't last too long. What is really happening is that your body is flushing itself of the water it has been storing throughout all those years of "survival mode". It's getting rid of all the stored water around your ankles, hips, thighs and maybe even your belly! So it's a great thing and if you endure the initial extra bathroom trips for the first while, then eventually the 'flushing' will cease and you will return to normal.

It's important to note - do not drink all the water at once. Set aside 3-4 times a day when you can drink a large glass, and then in-between that, always have a bottle of water with you to sip as you need.

Now, while drinking water isn't the easiest or nicest thing to do at first, believe me - you do get used to it. Since marrying my husband 6 years ago, I became addicted to Coca Cola - it was the first thing I drank in the morning and then throughout the day! Seriously, I loved the stuff! I still do. However, when I stopped drinking it - for the first few days, yes I did crave it - and at those times I would take a sip of my husbands coke, but I soon got used to my bottled water, and now that's pretty much all I drink! Since doing that, my husband has really inspired me with the compliments that come my way now from him! It's those sort of things that are great motivators - when people notice you are looking better and losing weight.

So - drink water, cut down the bad stuff - you don't need to fully stop eating it, there's nothing wrong with little treats - but all in moderation. Ensure that you are having plenty of fresh fruit and veges and just exercise a little. You don't need to be a hard out 'gym bunny' - we don't all have that kind of money. But even if you go for a walk after work, or take the kids out to the park - walk, don't drive. Take the stairs instead of the lift. Walk to the local shops instead of driving. If you have stairs at home - run up them instead of walking. All these things put together will help you out.

The statistics on our health in general are alarmingly scary:

* 64% of people are overweight in the US

* 48% of people in Europe are overweight

* 27% of Americans are classified as obese

* Obesity is responsible for over 325,000 deaths every year

* 300 million people worldwide are obese

* 750 million people worldwide are overweight

Time to stop this and get on the path of looking good and feeling good - so that YOUR husband/partner can say that YOU have a "popstar butt"!!!
