So, your upscale luggage is all packed, and you're in the cab to the airport. You have everything you need for your trip and you are actually going to be on time. Did you forget anything?

Theft of luggage at airports happens more often than you may think. This is particularly true if your luggage has all of the hallmarks of being high quality executive luggage. The good news is that there are things travelers can do to protect themselves from theft.

Most locks that come with suitcases can be easily broken into. Replace the lock with a more durable lock. Combination locks are the best, as there is no worry about losing keys. The same is true for your carry-on and your hanging garment bags. Just make sure you learn the combination!

Always pack your most valuable items at the bottom of your carry-on luggage, not at the top. Once you sit down on the plane, if at all possible, place your carry-on under the seat in front of you you can see it.

For your upscale luggage that you check, including your hanging garment bags, attach a few strips of colorful electrical tape to the bags. Once you retrieve your bags, check to see if the tape has been broken. In this way you will know that your suitcase has been tampered with.

If you have a layover at another airport, and passengers are given the opportunity to stretch their legs in the terminal before returning to the plane, always take your carry-on with you. Never leave it anywhere. This is an open invitation to a thief to steal it.

On longer flights, if you have any baggage that you want to place in the overhead compartment, use the ones across the aisle from you. This way if anyone attempts to look through your bag you will be able to easily see them and catch them red handed.

Keep all of your keys, essential documents, and your wallet on your person at all times or in your carry-on luggage where you can see them. Do not keep these items in a jacket pocket. Your coat could end up in the overhead compartment or could be hung up somewhere and it is easy for a thief to reach it.

In the same way, make sure you keep your passport, boarding pass and tickets on you at all times. One option is to wear a neck pouch that can very easily be tucked under your blouse or shirt while you are asleep.

Safety of your upscale luggage should always be a priority for everyone,no matter how often you travel. Airports and airplanes are prime locations for thefts to take place. Protect yourself and don't be a victim!
