Hot Coats For Cool Days

One of this season's biggest trends is to mix up masculine and feminine pieces and military coats are perfect for this. The knee length military coat with epaulettes and deep v-neck looks especially good with a ruffle front or pussy bow blouse to really play on the masculine/feminine theme. To work the style in a shorter version and to cleverly create some volume without masking the body's shape, try the flattering military inspired cape with tights and flat riding boots.
Heritage coats in checks and tweeds also make for a thoroughly feminine look. The black check mid length coat teamed with a short skirt, tights and heels looks beautifully old fashioned, whereas the tweed wrap collar coat is reminiscent of the pared down country house chic of Brideshead Revisited.
Other coat classics come in the shape of this season's macs. Eternally sexy, these elegant cover ups are perhaps the quickest way to add some French inspired va va voom into an Autumn wardrobe plus they create that all important womanly silhouette when the belt is knotted tightly at the waist. Go for a classic black mac or for a little twist opt for one of the stone, black or red styles with contrast stitching.
To add some colourful drama the coat collection also includes a range of short double breasted styles that come in colours such as red, green and purple - or for those who prefer single breasted there's a gorgeous teal number, the hot fashion shade du jour. These colours always work best with black trousers or dark denim .
But for those times when only black will do, there are plenty of styles to choose from. From the essential pea coat to the piped detail long coat and the length double breasted. This category is also where collar detailing comes into its own; wrap collars and funnel necks are wearable versions of the catwalk's 3D collars.
For something completely different the cropped fake fur jacket is both fashionable and versatile wear it with jeans or dress it up with chunky jewellery and glamorous eveningwear.
