Do you have a slight stutter? Even though people may only class your stutter as slight is it still getting you down? If you have answered yes to one or both of these questions then this article may well be of interest to you.

I have met many people who have what is often referred to as a slight stutter. It may come as some what of a surprise that even the slightest form of stutter can seriously impact on one's life.

It is often the case that the majority of the person's friends and family are not even aware that they have a stutter at all. This makes it even more humiliating for the person when they do find it difficult to say a word.

It is often a constant battle for the person who has the slight stutter to control their speech. They are likely to have many stuttering avoidance techniques that help them to come across as a fluent talker. To remember of all of these techniques, all of the time, is extremely draining. The person has to be aware, at all times, of the constant threat of the stutter. This is very frustrating and means that the person will often struggle to relax.

They will have voices in their head which are constantly speaking to them, saying that they will stutter in a minute and that they had better watch out.

These avoidance techniques may help the person who has a slight stutter in the majority of situations however they are all too aware that the techniques are unlikely to work when they are under severe pressure.

A person who has a severe stutter does not have this type of dilemma; they do not have to always attempt to hide their speech impediment as everybody will be all too aware of it.

I would image that every person who has a slight stutter often dreams that one day they will be able to speak fluently in all situations, free from this constant pressure of stuttering.
