The ‘Reusable’ Mantra for Plastic Eradication

Article Rated 1.5 out of 5

Suzanne Macguire Unverified Account

  • The paper-plastic war has vexed millions for long. But now the answer is evident- reusable bags. Finally, there seems to be a ray of hope in the constant efforts of governments to ban plastic and paper used as bags. The buzz about reusable bags has struck a cord with the people and more and more people are going the greener way.

Though it is still a long way for plastic bags to be abandoned, the positive response of the people to reusable bags has given enough encouragement to the industry. Plastic bags have always ruled on account of their cheap mode of production, sturdiness, easy mobility, and convenient storage capacity. This is the reason why plastic can be found in every nook and corner, be it your room or any grocery store. The sad truth is that plastic ultimately lies choking the gills of fishes, clogging the drains, or flap from tree to tree.

Paper bags were not bad but were made at the cost of cutting thousands of trees- again posing a threat to Mother Earth. Reusable bags have been introduced in the local stores but need more emphasis for promoting them. Once reusable bags distribution gets rolling smoothly, shoppers would unconsciously change their shopping habits.

More use of reusable bags would mean less plastic waste and reduced expense on waste disposal. Besides, this would also initiate better health of the environment. Efforts are on to make reusable bags more popular. The fashion industry has been a great help in its increasing popularity. Trendy reusable bags with totes or funky slogans are being highly appreciated by the people. Besides, Hollywood celebrities like William Shatner, Kevin Dillion, Rex Lee, and Deidre Hall have done a good job in promoting the use of reusable bags. Hopefully, these eco-friendly bags will soon find its way into the very lifestyle of the masses.
