Suzanne Macguire Unverified Account

  • These days, everything that has a green tag associated with, is popular. From cars to food, every single item that is green' seems to get a lot more attention than others. This was not the case ten years ago but increasing awareness of environmental hazards are really spreading the word of adopting green ways of lifestyle.

The buzz about green ways has also made inroads into the fashion industry. Initially, fashion designers were reluctant to associate their accessories with environmental friendly theme. But increasing awareness on eco-friendly living habits has inspired them to introduce entire new range of fashion accessories. Amongst other fashion accessories, shopping bags are the most popular.

The sale of green bags has registered rocketing growth over the past two years. Green bags do not essentially mean they are green in color. These bags are made of recyclable materials or those that do not end up being non-degradable wastes. New generation green bags are highly stylish, in theme with the changing trends.

Green bags like "I am not a plastic bag" had become a rage in the US and South-East Asian countries after its launch. Green bag companies now embellish totes as desired by the customers. Recently, Amsterdam hosted a Green Bags exhibition, which ended up as a highly popular event.

"I find it really interesting that these 'green bags' we have here in the museum are not just cheap fashion that comes and goes, but good design that stays" , says Sigrid Ivo, who has worked in the museum for 12 years and admits that she owns about 60 bags herself. "The image of recycling has changed a lot from what it used to be some 20 years ago. Designers are working together with companies to develop sustainable products", she explains.

Exhibitions like these have given a big boost to the green bags industry. Hence, such eco-friendly awareness events should be given adequate encouragement to promote a safer greener world.
