Make sure you add a blog to the site as well as this will increase your visibility.
Second, once the site is running and has enough pages, preferably on a topic you are passionate about, although it isn't mandatory, just easier for you to maintain or keep the site fresh, then apply for a Google Adsense account.
Third, insert the Google Adsense code into the web pages that you want to use as your cash generating pages, and you are all set.
In between these there are some items you will need to do such as, you need to find a hosting company to store your website. You should also consider getting an autoresponder account for the email list that you will be creating out of the visitors that come to your website. Oh, although you may not have to do this if you already have a domain name as you can create a sub-domain, you will need a domain name to label your website with. That will be your bucket, so to speak, as you can add additional sub-domains to your main site. The sub-domain, which most hosting companies allow you to create for free, is just a folder on your website. (Something like this subdomain.domain.com and you would be directing people to the url without using the www part of the address.)
Once these are setup and you have added your pages to the site and the Google Adsense code to the pages you are pretty much done.
Now the fun part starts, at this point, the main thing for you to concentrate on is the traffic to visit your site and start clicking away on your advertising links.
At the end of the month you go to the bank and collect your money.
