Recently, I was searching the internet in an attempt to find a unique gift idea for my friend's baby shower, when I came across a Website called Lunar Properties, selling Lunar Land Claims. I had never thought of property rights on the moon, nor had I thought about giving someone a piece of the moon as a gift before, but I was intrigued by the idea.
Many locations on the Moon were named by early astronomers and were given great names for gift giving; the Sea of Tranquility, Bay of Love, Bay of Rainbows, Lake of Dreams, etc. I choose the Lake of Joy for my friend/soon to be mom and her baby. These names add to the attraction and uniqueness for giving Moon Property as a gift.
When I searched further into this unique gift idea, I found there were several companies selling these types of claims. I took the time to shop around a bit in order to get the best deal and decided to buy a Lunar real estate claim for my friend from Lunar Properties LLC for the reasons listed below. But before we get into that, I will tell you what I found out about the legality of owning Moon Property.
Basically, ownership of the Moon is up for grabs. The United Nations (UN) drafted a policy prohibiting ownership of all objects in outer space (including planets and Moons) between 1972 and 1979 and this policy was ratified in 1984 by a handful of countries. Lunar Properties LLC made no crazy claims about outright owning the moon or trying to fund and build private moon bases; they just sold me the claim with a promise to invest a portion of their profits attempting to influence future Lunar Property rights in favor of recognizing their customer's claims. They also had a lot of good information and numerous links about the Moon.

The two things I really liked about Lunar Properties LLC were their price and their shipping charges. All of the other companies charged an extra $10 to $15 for standard shipping (and more for other shipping options), while Lunar Properties included shipping via Priority Mail for FREE! I am really discouraged by internet companies that advertise low prices and then add high shipping costs at checkout; it just seems unethical and erodes the value of the lower online price. I live in the eastern U.S. , and it only took 3 days to receive my friend's Lunar Property Registration Package after I placed my order online from http://www.LunarProperties.com .
