TYPES STRAINS OF MALARIA

There are four one celled parasite species of parasitic protozoa malaria that infect man: Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium malariae, and Plasmodium ovale.

Plasmodium falciparum, has for perhaps ten thousand years, used mosquitoes to transmit itself to humans.

Plasmodium falciparum, so called 'malignant tertian fever', or 'black water fever,' is the most common strain of malaria and is also the deadliest. This strain of malaria is a serious disease that is responsible for about 2-million deaths per year, predominantly in young children in sub Saharan Africa.

Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium malariae, and Plasmodium ovale are relapsing forms of malaria.

All mosquito species needs water for its reproduction. All of the malaria parasites are spread to people by the female mosquito, which feeds itself on the human blood. The life cycle of malaria has many stages in humans (intermediate host) and Anopheles mosquito (definitive host).

Malaria has an incubation of 10-21 days but may be longer. In humans, the malarial parasites (called sporozoites) after being released into the bloodstream from a mosquito bite, migrate to the liver where they mature and release another form, the malarial merozoites. Worldwide, malaria affects between 300 and 500 million people each year. Malaria is a leading cause of death and disease worldwide, especially in developing countries. Other species of plasmodia infect reptiles, birds and other mammals.

Up to 500 million people experience a bout of malaria each year, suffering anemia, fever, chills, headache, muscle aches and weakness, vomiting, coughing, diarrhoea and abdominal pain, followed by internal bleeding, kidney and liver failure and can result in coma and death. People with malaria can die if they do not receive proper medical treatment. ~Ms. CiCi~ http://cici-online.info
