Death Valley is a national park with a unique & fragile ecosystem and is generally sunny, dry, and clear throughout the year. It is considered one of the hottest places on earth having the second-highest temperature ever recorded at 134 degrees. It is over 130 miles long, and 12 miles wide and is located in Southeastern part of California and parts of Nevada.

The Valley is very vast and seeing that immense space as far as your eyes can see without a hint of civilization is in fact rather overwhelming and not that there isn't any civilization because there is a resort, golf course and camping grounds. Death Valley is known for its most spectacular views in the morning and evening hours. While parts of Death Valley is barren of life, there is a variety of animals that manage to make their home there; deer, gray fox, coyote, bobcat, badger, jackrabbit, desert tortoise, and an assortment of birds, bats, snakes and lizards inhabit the foothills and desert flats.

Now for the fun part of Death Valley, it is a marvelous place for the family to get back to nature in its most primitive form and yet it has the beauty of nowhere else in the United States. There is a resort called Furnace Creek and it is basically open all year, even tho the best times to visit the valley is November thru April. You can golf and swim and have fabulous meals, at night it is blacker than anywhere and that makes the stars shine oh so bright. When you pack be sure and put in your binoculars.

When you visit Death Valley be sure and experience running in a secluded, hauntingly beautiful place, just for the pure joy of it. During your run you will see some of the over 1,040 species of plants, and 23 species are endemic, found nowhere else in the world. Death Valley is also unique because it contains the lowest, hottest, driest location in North America, but with that said, most days of the year are a sunny paradise where one can experience great solitude and tranquility. Don't forget to pack your hiking boots and plan on carrying lots and lots of water, as it is one of the driest areas in the world.
