What To Look For When Booking Patong Hotels
by Alex WrightFor some people, Patong is close to paradise. For others, it's not as enticing a destination. Patong is the most popular beach in Phuket. It draws hordes of tourists every year and continues to be developed into some kind of tourist Mecca. If you're thinking of visiting Phuket, then you may be considering booking one of the many Patong hotels that are available.
Patong is popular with travelers for a number of reasons. For a start, it's the most developed part of the island. It has everything you could ever need. The most prominent part of Patong and the reason many people book Patong hotels is because of the nightlife. There are more bars, clubs and discos than anywhere else on the island.
Whatever you're into, you can find it in Phuket. There are beer bars, go-go bars, dance clubs, salsa clubs, jazz venues, hip hop joints and all-night techno discos. If you book a Patong hotel, you'd better prepare yourself to be surrounded by throngs of tourists. Expats and locals also visit Patong for the nightlife.
Another reason to book a hotel in Patong is because the place has a high volume of quality restaurants. Although the restaurants in Patong may be a little more expensive than in other parts of the islands, you have your pick from Indian, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese and, of course, Thai food.
While this may sound exciting to some people, it might seem like hell on earth for others. For this reason, Patong hotels won't be right for everyone. If you want to be away from the masses and have a little peace and quiet, then booking a hotel in Patong is probably not the way to go.
If you do book a Patong hotel, you should take great care in leaving valuables in your hotel room. There have been a number of reported cases of travelers having goods and money stolen from their rooms while they have been out. These incidents usually end up on local forums and blogs, so a Google search of the hotel you are thinking of booking might save you in the long run. Leaving money in room safes in Patong is also not a good idea.
In general, there should be nothing to worry about when booking a Patong hotel. There is some crime in Patong, but violent attacks are incredibly rare. You should, however, be careful if riding a motorbike alone late at night. Also, getting drunk and wondering the streets of Patong can be seen as asking for trouble. Common sense usually prevails.
