Plyometric Exercises For Speed And Strength
by Donald PaquinTo reach your full potential, a balanced training program should be followed to ensure that the correct techniques are used, making sure that you are targeting the proper muscle groups. Plyometric exercises used along with your proper training program, will give you the results you want. Plyometric exercises comprise of different techniques which are used to target different areas of the body.
This type of training is designed to improve the functions of the nervous system, making you faster and more powerful. With plyometric movements, a muscle is loaded and then contracted, in a very fast sequence, using the muscle elasticity, tendons, strength, and all the tissues that are around the muscle. The end results are higher jumping, faster running, and harder hitting.
The speed of your muscle contractions are increased to produce an explosion of power, that will put you in the top of your game. You will without question be able to reach your true potential. Your start will be quicker, your jump will be higher, and your overall performance will be more than you thought possible. Plyometric training exercises are used to strengthen the tissues to train the nerve cells to contract in such a way which creates an explosive movement in the least amount of time. Plyometric movements consist of a very fast lengthening movement of the muscle, then a brief rest, and then a very fast and powerful shortening of the the muscle.
As is with any training program, intensity should be increased gradually. Use the proper type of exercise for your particular needs because all plyometric exercises are not needed for every sport or activity. Knowing the correct exercises to use will allow you to improve the areas you need to improve and not waste time working on something that will not help.
Low intensity plyometric exercises may consist of one or more of the following:
Squat Jumps
Jump to box
Lateral Jump to Box
Moderate Intensity can be gradually increased to by using one or more of the following:
Split Squat Jumps
Tuck Jumps
Lateral box push off
Bounding
Bounding with rings
Box drill with rings
Lateral hurdle jumps
High Intensity exercises will be achieved in time. To perform at the top of your ability and gain your full potential, plyometric exercises should be used along with your training program to get you the results you want. Never start with the most difficult exercise first. Start at the beginning and work your way up at a safe and proper speed. You don't want to rush into an advanced stage if your body isn't ready. When your ready, you may use one or more of the following high intensity exercises during your workout.
Zigzag Hops
Single Leg Tuck Jump
Single leg lateral hop
Depth jumps
Your dedication, mental awareness, hard work and the proper nutrition will help you gain the results that you want. You can achieve what you want if you are ready and willing to work for it. There are no short cuts to get to the top of your ability. Before you know it, you'll be jumping the highest you ever did, you'll be running faster than you thought possible, and your overall performance will be what you dreamed of.
