Panic Anxiety - What's That?
Every year an increasing number of people go to their doctors and complain about stress symptoms like run down and problems to handle their life. They tell their doctor about weird and often body-related symptoms they have had lately and become almost shocked when he diagnoses them as suffering from panic attacks or anxiety. Most people have probably heard about such diagnoses, without actually knowing what they entail.
The Symptoms of a Panic Attack
It is easy to recognize the symptoms of a panic attack. Most symptoms are located in the upper part of the body.
Symptoms related To the Heart
A frequent and dramatic symptom is heart palpitations. This symptom is characterized with fast increasing heartbeats or the heart pounds very loudly. As a result of the heart pounding the patient often feel chest pain as well.
Stomach Symptoms
Stomach problems are also symptoms of a panic attack: people experience bloating sometimes or more commonly they experience brief, intense nausea
Breathing Problems
Most people who experience a panic attack also have a lot of difficulty breathing. They literally feel like they can't catch their breath at all or they can't draw a full breath. Some people even suddenly feel like they're being smothered.
Dizziness and Lightheadedness
People also experience dizziness or experience brief "weak spells" where they feel like they are about to collapse. Many people actually do collapse and faint. The same thing can happen with lightheadedness ? instead of feeling dizzy someone gets lightheaded very quickly and has to quickly sit down to avoid collapsing.
Other Physical Symptoms
There are more physical signs of panic anxiety as well: a person's skin may lose color or they may experience hot flashes or chills.
Panic attacks should only last a few moments but unfortunately, for some people, they can last for as long as a few minutes.
What Causes a Panic Attack?
Most doctors believe that Panic Attacks are caused by a psychological malfunction in the body's "alarm system." The above symptoms of panic attacks occur naturally when a person feels that their life is in some way threatened. Only when someone has a panic attack, their mind convinces their body that something terrible is about to happen to them.
